Well before sunrise on 16 October, 200 children and facilitators in Montagu, Ashton, Robertson and Worcester, clambered onto buses for the 2 hour (-plus!) trip to Cape Town, ready to run. The day of the Gun Run had finally arrived, and we were the proud beneficiaries.

For many children, this was not only the first trip out of town but also their first time in Cape Town, AND seeing the sea!

Yellow t-shirts dominated Beach Road in our special 5km run. The excitement was electric! One of our buses missed the start (flat tyre) but we made sure the children still got to run down the Promenade instead.

At the finish line it was time for medals, snack packs and prize giving. Children from Graham Beck and Riverside took to the stage and performed well-rehearsed song and dance routines. What a hit!

KFM presenters, Sibongile Mafu and Carl Wastie then presented Anna with a cheque for R50 000 for the Anna Foundation!

A record of +22 000 runners took part in this years’ Gun Run and what a privilege for us to be a part of it!

Massive thanks to Race Director, Tony Breslin, Sue Ullyett and the Gun Run Committee, AAC, KFM (air time!) and OUTsurance, Top Events (race entries), Leigh Goldschmidt (food parcels) and all who supported us entering the event. Thanks also to Somerset College for helping us by handing out medals and Janine Tessendorf for coordinating your crew of students!
