Does the Anna Foundation replace what schools do?

No, the Anna Foundation works alongside schools to strengthen and extend the support children need. A common misconception is that schools should be able to meet every child’s educational and developmental needs on their own, and that NGOs step in only when there are gaps in responsibility. In reality, many schools in South Africa are operating under significant pressure, with limited resources, overcrowded classrooms, and a shortage of specialised support such as remedial teaching.

Through additional education, sport, and life skills programmes, the Anna Foundation helps bridge critical gaps so that children who need extra attention and development are not left behind.

Additionally, Anna Foundation centres provide a safe space for children and teens to spend their time after school, keeping them productively engaged rather than idle or turning to societal pressures.
