At the Anna Foundation, Mandela Day is more than just a date on the calendar – it’s a day that embodies the spirit of giving, unity and pride in our country. This year, we celebrated through an exciting and heart warming initiative: the 2024 Mandela Day Art Competition.
Our 23 projects took part in crafting stunning South African flags using recycled materials, and the results were absolutely incredible! 🤩 Each flag was unique, handcrafted with passion and creativity, reflecting the pride our learners have in their country. From bold colours to innovative designs, the children truly amazed us with their artistic talents.
The Challenge: Judging Incredible Works of Art
Anna, who had the daunting task of judging these flags, was blown away by the exceptional level of creativity. With so many outstanding entries, it was a tough decision to select the winners! ✨ But after careful consideration, we are thrilled to announce the top achievers.

A special mention goes to Groot Constantia for creating the most ‘African’ South African flag, capturing the essence of our diverse and beautiful nation.
The Impact: More Than Just Art
This competition has been about much more than showcasing artistic talent. It has united our learners, giving them the chance to collaborate and create something meaningful together. Through the use of recycled materials, they also learned valuable lessons about sustainability and the importance of protecting our environment.
We couldn’t be prouder of each and every learner who participated. 🌟 Their hard work and dedication to this project have shown us that art has the power to bring people together and inspire positive change. We are excited to display the winning flags and continue promoting the values of Mandela Day through education and creativity.
