As part of the LEGO league arranged by On The Ball Foundation, three girls from our Arabella after school project were selected to participate in a 12-week IT course that centered on robotics and technology. On The Ball sponsored both the LEGO and iPads needed to participate, and over the duration of the course, students worked in teams to build LEGO masterpieces, using iPads to add sound and movement to their creations.
The course gave our learners the opportunity to practice many fundamental skills such as creativity, teamwork, cooperation, participation and leadership. They also developed many new core STEM education skills.
To end off the training, teams were required to present their creations to the rest of the class and medals and certificates were awarded to each participant. One of our learners was fortunate to be selected as the winning team, which was awarded an iPad as the grand prize.
All in all, all three of our girls walked away from this experience with a better understanding of technology, robotics and the Internet of Things, which may prove instrumental in helping to motivate, inspire and position them for a creative future of innovation. Watch this space!
