Saturday, 11 February 2017 marked 27 years since Nelson Mandela was released, after spending 27 years in the Victor Verster Prison in Paarl. Our children were privileged to be able to see first hand, where Madiba stayed all those years as we ran 5km in the 27 for Freedom Fun Run which took us through the grounds of the Correctional Services. It was not only an enjoyable event but an enlightening one too! Special thanks to Top Events, and also to Manfred...
Reading (Education): Good auditory skills have amongst others, significant benefits for learning reading. This month our facilitators focus on auditory perception and how to apply it in shared reading. These listening skills are practiced by playing auditory games with the children on a regular basis and then reading a story with questions that follow on from what they have just read. The Grade R – 3’s focus on sounds at the start and ends of words, while the Grade 4...
The children from Simonsig Wine Estate were extremely excited at the prospect of this trail running event taking place on their farm. Their first run for the year! On the morning of 28 January, children, parents, facilitators and support runners lined up, ready to tackle “the hill” which everyone had been talking about the day before. Hill? What hill?! The children ran like lightening and really did us proud and we even had a few prize winners! Special thanks to Japie Swanepoel...
Reading (Education): The current worksheet theme is “My Body”. Facilitators are trained how to incorporate creative and exciting introductions to make lessons more effective and bring the theme to life. Fun games incorporated into the topic help children practice spelling which will ultimately enhance their writing skills and help them remember what they learn. Running (Sport): Sit-ups, planking, sprints and endurance running...

Ariane would demonstrate a technique and the Buffet Olives girls would copy. By the end...
Well before sunrise on 16 October, 200 children and facilitators in Montagu, Ashton, Robertson and Worcester, clambered onto buses for the 2 hour (-plus!) trip to Cape Town, ready to run. The day of the Gun Run had finally arrived, and we were the proud beneficiaries. For many children, this was not only the first trip out of town but also their first time in Cape Town, AND seeing the sea! Yellow t-shirts dominated Beach Road in our special 5km run. The...
