MESSAGE FROM ANNA“It feels almost strange to start by saying ‘Welcome to 2023’! This year has been so incredibly full, it is hard to believe we are already in March. I feel inspired reading through this newsletter and noting all the achievements accomplished: some seemingly small and others clearly large! For me personally, I love the story we share on Mariska and Hazel. These girls are both past learners of the Anna Foundation who matriculated through our programmes. I remember them...
It has been an incredibly fast-paced and jam-packed first half of the year at the Anna Foundation. In a way, it feels like we made up for many of the opportunities we could not offer the children in the previous 2 years! This has taken admirable dedication from all of our staff members, going above and beyond what is required of them on a daily basis. I feel incredibly grateful to have this team of passionate people investing so much...
Running is one of the three pillars of our 3 Rs Programme, so it is only fitting that our children LOVE TO RUN! And certainly nothing has changed in 2022. The Anna Foundation children have already taken part in three running events this year, and plan to do many more. Trailfun hosts a league of trail running events on various wine farms throughout the Western Cape on Saturday mornings, and they have kindly hosted the Anna Foundation in three of...

They even took first, second and third place in the 5 km trail run. We are very proud! A warm thanks to Run the Vines, who provided us with free entry into the race, as well as to the hosts for making this day possible. Nuy Winery at Nuy on the Hill Willow Creek Olive...

The annual Fairview Goat Run event this weekend included the Anna Foundation children from Kanonkop, Buffet Olives as well as Fairview‘s very own farmworker’s children from their Anna Foundation after school. The focus at this event was to introduce the much younger children to recreational exercise by starting with the 5km walk, before building up to the 5km fun runs regularly done as part of the Anna Foundation 3R’s (including running/sports) programme. ...
Four of the Anna Foundation Sports Development team participated in the Dirtopia Medihelp Ride and Run event at Delvera this weekend. It was a new challenge for them to do a duathlon, a multi-discipline event of both running and riding in the same race! All four crossed the finishing line in good time and Joan Piek (our Sports Coordinator) said “I felt very satisfied to see what joy it brought them. I was...
The Anna Foundation children were running for joy at the Simonsig Trail Run sponsored by Cape Aqua this past weekend and we were privileged to be the beneficiary of the event. Thank you TrailFun and Cape Aqua and Simonsig. As part of our Sports Programme our learners participate in several trail runs and fun runs around the Western Cape. The children’s fitness levels and stamina have improved over the years of participating – so watch...
