The Anna Foundation children have received 10 brand new Silverback mountain bikes through Adrenalin on Friday 11th August 2017 starting at their Simonsig Winery afterschool programme as well as 50 commuter bicycles from Qhubeka at two of their other farms Klawervlei Stud in Bonnievale and Monteith Trust in Grabouw. In a pure act of generosity, the contributors of the Cape Wine Auction broke their own record by raising a staggering R22.3 million on 11 February at the Antonij Rupert Wine Estate, sponsored by Nedbank Private Wealth. This past long weekend on Friday 16 June 2017, the Anna Foundation youth celebrated the Youth Day public holiday by participating in the Youth Day Trail run at Delvera presented by Sportsman’s Warehouse and Dirtopia. Two young ladies from the Anna Foundation’s after-school training programme at Simonsig achieved excellent results. On the 5Km run Tenichia Malgas came 2nd and Christelle Swart came 3rd in the 6-10 Overall Girls Category! Thanks to Dirtopia and Sportsman’s Warehouse for sponsoring and running the event....
Renee Lighton is our educational trainer for our Anna Foundation facilitator workshops.The facilitators in the recent training day (whichoccurs monthly) benefited hugely from her innovative, educational ideas which the facilitators will pass on to their children in each of their school projects. The annual Nuy Valley Feast took place at the beautiful Leipzig Country House. The list of activities ranged from a MTB, fun walk and vineyards trail run, wine tasting, olive oil tastings, vineyards trails, tractor and wagon rides, fun activities for children and live music. 56 of our Anna Foundation learners from Leipzig, Memel, Nuwerus and Rouxbyn braved the cold to participate in the 5km Fun Run. On the 23rd of April this year, the VWS Race forWater was hosted at Elsenburg farm. Our learners from Simonsig farm and Buffet Olives farm participated in the 6km race, which followed farm tracks on the slopes of Klapmutskop. Despite the fact that staying active is very important for our overall health and wellbeing, this event had an added benefit: all of the proceeds went towards the VWS, an entirely volunteer-run, non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection of biodiversity...
In addition to the very specific after-school support we offer our high school students, we also hold a monthly workshop for them at a central venue which forms part of our Teenager Programme. These workshops are seen as a privilege (they must attend the after-school regularly in order to qualify and are aimed at inspiring them for their futures. On 18 February 2017 the Grade 5 – 7’s from Simonsig Wine Estate after-school joined over 1000 Capetonians for 5FM’s “BIG Cape Town Clean Up”! The five areas being targeted for this mass litter collection included Sea Point Promenade/Mouille Point (where we were stationed), Lion’s Head, the Liesbeek River, Milnerton Lagoon and Joe Slovo. Saturday, 11 February 2017 marked 27 years since Nelson Mandela was released, after spending 27 years in the Victor Verster Prison in Paarl. Our children were privileged to be able to see first hand, where Madiba stayed all those years as we ran 5km in the 27 for Freedom Fun Run which took us through the grounds of the Correctional Services.
